A major tributary of the Rhine, it flows through France, Luxembourg and Germany, but is primarily a German experience. Most voyages on the castle-studded Moselle (or Mosel) sail between Roman-influenced Trier and Koblenz in Germany, but can also visit the cities of Luxembourg, Grevenmacher and Remich in Luxembourg, and may originate in Metz (via Paris).
Two main ports of call include charming Bernkastel and Cochem (with the imposing Reichsburg Castle), while it is also a major wine-growing region for world-class Rieslings.
The Moselle is usually included on Rhine cruises, though, either sailing south from Amsterdam (or a northbound journey from the likes of Vienna, Basel or Rudesheim), or sailing east from Trier to Amsterdam or into the Danube.
