Tauck’s Viennese Speciality

Tauck’s Viennese Speciality

Nov 6.- Danube River cruise fans will want to take note of a new itinerary being offered by luxury American operator Tauck next year. And, for those wanting more time to explore and enjoy Vienna, it is especially note-worthy.

The 10-day route will bring the company’s total number of cruises on the river to seven and underscore the Danube as the most popular destination for Tauck guests (and many others).

Tauck CEO Dan Mahar explained: “Our other cruises featuring the Danube, either alone or in combination with other waterways, range from 12 to 24 days. At just 10 days, the new itinerary is a great option for travellers with less time. It has a greater focus on Vienna, one of Europe’s true gems and a perennial favourite among our guests, and we’ve built in sightseeing choices during many of our port visits.”

The new Danube Reflections cruise sails between Regensburg and Vienna on both east and westbound itineraries. The seven-day sailing is complemented by an included two-night stay at the five-star Ritz-Carlton Vienna, complete with guided sightseeing in the city and an exclusive “Imperial Evening” that features a cocktail reception, elegant dinner and performances of period music and dance inside a private Viennese palace.

Other options on the voyage include the choice of a walking tour with a local expert in Bratislava or an excursion outside the city for a wine-tasting and castle visit. In Germany, guests can opt for a tour of World War II-related sites in Nuremburg or a walking tour in Regensburg. And, in Austria, guests can disembark in Krems to visit Graffenegg Castle and Gottweig Abbey (a mountaintop Benedictine monastery), or stay on board and travel to Durnstein for a guided walking tour of the town and Kuenringerburg Castle perched above it.

A number of unique experiences will be enjoyed by all guests, including a local “heuriger” lunch with traditional food and music at a tavern in the Vienna Woods, and a full-day excursion to the well-preserved medieval town of Cesky Krumlov where Tauck has arranged an exclusive private lunch at the Winter Riding School.  A large hall where 18th-century aristocrats once exercised their prized horses, the Winter Riding School today is a lavish venue for concerts and other high-profile social events.
