The stats seem to say that on the past passenger list of your typical ocean cruise line, around 30% would claim to have been on a river cruise or planning to go on one in the future. A stat that may well show why certain ocean lines are pulling together their own river cruising products now.
That said, the cruise faithful and the cruise wise seem to categorically state that the river passenger is a different breed to their ocean brethren. It's a completely different experience and simply non comparable and likely why many holiday companies do so well on river cruising but would struggle to sell into the oceans.
The jury is out on this one! Opinions welcome...
