Olympic medallist Grainger launches latest Avalon river cruiser
London Olympic Gold medallist, Dr Katherine Grainger CBE was made godmother to Avalon Poetry II, one of two river cruise ships christened in a joint ceremony in Holland.
Grainger, the double scull’s champion attended the twin christening ceremony for Avalon Poetry II and Avalon Impression. American travel industry insider Mara DelliPriscoli was the other godmother. The Avalon Suite Ships will sail a range of itineraries on the Dutch Waterways, Rhine and the Danube rivers.
The two Suite Ships feature a modern approach to technology and design for river cruising with two full decks of suites complete with wall-to-wall panoramic windows and open-air balconies. The spacious ships include a Club lounge, Panorama lounge, Observation lounge and dining room with views from the full length windows. Other facilities include a Sky Deck with Jacuzzi and Sky Bistro for outdoor grilled lunches, a hairdresser and a fitness room.
Avalon Waterways is set to have ten Suite Ships by 2015.
